“Maia Marsh’s songwriting has the ability to stop one in their tracks from the very first listen. It is intense, it is profound and it is deeply human” - Bittersweet Symphonies Blog
Maia Marsh (front woman for Sydney indie-rock band Motion Sickness) returns to her roots, announcing debut solo album “Old Ones and New Ones”" with romantic lullaby ‘The Other Side of This’ accompanied by cinematic clip.
With a sound reminiscent of artists such as Adrianne Lenker and Laura Marling, Maia Marsh is captivating, combining thoughtful and bold songwriting with intricate storytelling and dancing guitar lines.
It has been a busy few years for multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Maia Marsh.
As well as fronting indie-rock trio Motion Sickness, Maia Marsh has also loaned her music abilities to projects such as Georgia Fair, Goodside, Huck Hastings, Georgia Mulligan, Ainsley Farrell, Tullara and Ultracrush.
Though 'The Other Side of This' retains a similarly striking essence as that of Motion Sickness, Maia has chosen to deviate from the heaviness and angst and just float, creating a track that's hard to not get swept up in. "The song was essentially recreated from a phone recording from the first time I jammed it with anyone; my housemates at the time, Georgia and Dom, during lockdown last year. Dom played this beautiful riff over my rhythm guitar and I knew instantly it had to stay. I then wrote and demoed more guitar and bass parts around that to take to the studio later.”
‘The Other Side of This’ was engineered and mixed by Drew Bisset at Offbeat Collective and produced & performed by Maia herself, featuring her nostalgic country tinged guitars as well as harmonies from Sydney icon Dominic Breen. “It was my first time producing a song completely on my own, and playing all the parts myself, too. Drew gave me that platform to work on, and it was a really great process.”
The track was mastered by Adam Dempsey.
